GUESTS:

PAULINE BONIFACE, Jack’s better ¾.

GLENN GIBSON, Ray’s chauffer for this bad snow day.

THOMAS FISHER, Former member and today’s guest speaker.

HAPPY BUCKS:

TED: He was happy to introduce the guests at our table, and he was happy that his hair is strawberry blond, (said it was a hockey bet, but the boys downtown think he is really cute.) He is also happy because someone cleared his driveway of the 12 inches of slush.

IRVING: Happy to be back had a great vacation but it is now over.

RAY: Glad that Glenn is driving today.

RANDY: Was in Ottawa last week, had a great time, glad to be back, he missed us.

JEREMY: He has been accepted to coach a hockey team next year, so that means his son Benjamin will be guaranteed one more year of hockey, ( I think he was just kidding because his son is a great little hockey player, in spite of his father.)

D MAC: His youngest grandson is now 6 months old, and the other is going to University, quite a time span between grand kids.

MARTIN: Not so happy, last snow storm his blower died, got a new one and it died in today’s storm. They just don’t have good blowers at the dollar store.

D WAC: One of his neighbors called and told him to keep his blinds closed while he and his wife are having sex; the whole street was watching and laughing at him yesterday. David replied by saying that the joke was on all of them because he wasn’t even home yesterday.

THE DRAW:

PAULINE pulled the ticket, and guess what,? ……….. Jeremy won.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

PRES. JEREMY: There is a Peace Symposium this Saturday at the Royal York Hotel and the Rotary International President will be there speaking of Peace through Service.

Heart Lake is hosting a “wine paring” $85.00 on Sat. April 6th. For info contact him. It is also the same day as the Kidney Foundation Dinner/Dance.

The Gates Foundation has raised the amount of the money that can be donated to the Polio Plus Campaign, so if you want to give over a million you can see Jerry.

We somehow pushed thru a $500. donation to the Special Olympics bowling team for a fund raiser in the name of the Children’s Safety Village, all well and good, but at a regular lunch meeting, I thought that’s what board meetings are for, just saying.

GUEST SPEAKER:

WAYNE WOOD introduced THOMAS FISHER former member and director of the Habitat for Humanity. First Wayne brought us up to date on the GREAT CANADIAN PENNY ROUND UP that he started some time ago. So far he has collected over 23,500 pennies and has made up some certificate type documents for some of the places that have allowed us to put our collection jars in. Well done Wayne, great job, I look forward to presenting the one to Friends Café. This all ties in with Habitat because the pennies are to be donated to Habitat for Humanities to buy tools. Today we gave Thomas a cheque for $2,045. Bringing the total so far to $5,990 for Habitat to buy tools so they can continue to build houses to help people with a hand up, not a hand out.

Thomas made a presentation and showed us pictures of the house that some of worked on last year and the 2 new houses that are being built now. He told us of the 2 new projects one on Torbram which will have 18 homes and one on McLaughlin which will have 15 homes. He explained how the people qualify to get a home, how they must work so many hours on the home and all the other details, remember it is a hand up not a hand out. The family lucky enough to get a home must work on it, and pay a mortgage and everything just like everyone else, but they do get some help and must qualify. Great program and looking forward to following the progress on the new homes being build, and knowing that the pennies we donate are going into buying hammers and saws and other tools that are needed to make it happen. Thanks Thomas and thanks Wayne.

Hockey this Sunday, only 5 regular season games left.
